Promotions Intern - Spring 2010 - Daytona International Speedway (Daytona Beach, FL)

Daytona International Speedway is the home of "The Great American Race" - the Daytona 500. Though the season-opening NASCAR Sprint Cup event garners most of the attention - as well as the largest audience in motorsports - the enormous 480-acre motorsports complex boasts the most diverse schedule of racing on the globe, thus earning it the title of "World Center of Racing." In addition to eight major weekends of racing activity, rarely a week goes by that the Speedway grounds are not used for events that include civic and social gatherings, car shows, photo "shoots," production vehicle testing and police motorcycle training.
 

We are currently accepting applications for the position of Promotions Intern for Spring 2010.
 

This position will report to the Manager of Advertising and Promotions and will perform duties assigned by the Media Relations/Communications team.
 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Distribution of promotional inventory to TV and Radio partners
  • Assist with Social Media communications initiatives/execution
  • Coordinate logistics for radio remotes during events
  • Coordinate VIP experiences for promotional prize winners
  • Attend event planning meetings leading up to events
  • Assist with pre-race event preparations (i.e. logistics for national anthem, invocation, color guard logistics, etc.
  • Assist with event day duties including promotional execution and set-up/teardown during each of the following events: The Roar before the Rolex 24, NASCAR Preseason Thunder Fan Fest, Rolex 24 at Daytona, Speedweeks at Daytona, Daytona 200 Week By Honda
     

This is a non-paid internship. Spring interns are to start January 4, 2010 and will run thru the second week of March.
 

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Marketing or Communications
  • Must be organized and detail oriented
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe, etc.)
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays

Public Relations Internship - Homestead-Miami Speedway (Miami, FL)

Key responsibilities include assisting in PR initiatives tied to the promotion and ticket sales of the Speedway’s major events, highlighted by: Ford Championship Weekend (Nov. 20-22), the Championship finales of the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series; and the NextEra Resources SpeedJam Championships Weekend (Oct. 9-10), featuring the Championship finale races of the IndyCar, Firestone Indy Lights and Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.

The Public Relations Intern is responsible for assisting with media outreach and public awareness of all year-round track activities (more than 250 events annually).

Position assists with media relations and event management at Speedway through the management of the media center, press box, TV and radio broadcasts, as well as media-specific programs (press conferences, special events, etc.).

Specific Job Knowledge/Skills/Ability:

  • Journalism: excellent writing skills; familiarity with AP Style (will be expected to author/assist with feature stories, press releases, website content and sales brochures)
  • Highly organized, resourceful and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work well with different personalities in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of motorsports (NASCAR, IndyCar, etc.), with a thirst to learn more
  • Exceptional interpersonal and telephone skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel
  • Exceptional guest and client service capabilities
  • Available to work non-traditional hours in conjunction with events
