Consumer Marketing Intern - Chicagoland Speedway & Route 66 Raceway (Joliet, IL)

Position Purpose

During the five month internship, the Consumer Marketing Intern will gain valuable experience and knowledge about consumer marketing, live events and the motorsports industry while supporting the Marketing team with all efforts on multiple platforms, such as social, on and off site displays and events. The intern must be readily available to answer questions, concerns and complaints of Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway fans.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities:

    • Basic marketing, sales, hospitality and contract fulfillment duties

    • Maintain marketing databases

    • Distribution of materials to local businesses, sponsors and partners

    • Oversee promotions and distribution of tickets to winners

    • Manage inventory of promotional items

    • Organize and execute all off-site promotional expos

    • Manage pace car and show car appearances

    • Other grass-roots promotional efforts

    • Communicate marketing messages throughout the internship

    • Special projects as assigned

    • On-Site Event Responsibilities:

      • Assist with design, set up  and execution of marketing display areas, such as, Kid’s Club, Route 66 Raceway, Fan Pit Stop, and  Infield Fan Zone

      • Assist in the credential process and overall execution of pre-race and Gatorade Victory Lane

Qualifications

Guest Services Intern - Homestead Miami Speedway (Homestead, FL)

Homestead-Miami Speedway is looking for interns to support our Guest Services Department. The interns will assist in hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising event volunteers/staff working Guest Services areas during our events. These areas are Ushers, RV Lot Ambassadors, Information Centers, Gate/Grounds Greeters, Tram Services and Disabled Transportation Assistance. Guest Services management will assign the following duties:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Non-event days:
• Assist with the coordination of new volunteers/civic groups/staff hiring and orientation
• Assist with maintaining the proper paperwork (contracts, insurance, check requests)
• Participate in pre- event trainings
• Prepare and distribute training materials
• Work with the scheduling staff
• Learn and use scheduling software database
• Assist in preparing and distributing schedules to event volunteers/staff
• Help with the scheduling of and interaction with civic groups

Event day duties:
• Assist with guest services check-in/check-out on event days, issuing uniforms and credentials
• Assist with guest issues and complaints
• Interact with guests to understand their outlook on the events and relay information to management
• Interact with event day staff, assist them with their tasks, learn from their experience, and work with
      management to further event volunteer/staff satisfaction
• Provide support to and assist department managers

Qualifications include the following:

Successful candidates will be creative, self-starters, highly motivated, organized and team players with attention to detail and demonstrate ability to multi-task. Candidates are expected to bring a positive attitude to the workplace, to be cheerful, engaging, cooperative and productive, and to perform additional duties as required for the efficient operations of the Speedway.

• Currently pursuing a degree in a related field (event management, hospitality, etc.)
• Must be organized and detail oriented
• Strong in-person and phone communication skills, ability to present information clearly and concisely
• Knowledge of basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel etc.)
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
• Possess a Driver’s License and clean driving record
• Must be 18 years of age

Compensation: Florida minimum wage (currently $8.10/hour)

Homestead-Miami Speedway is a world-class motorsports facility located just south of Miami in tropical South Florida. The Speedway is the home of Ford Championship Weekend, the season-finales for the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup, XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series. In addition to these major spectator events, the Speedway is active more than 260 days per year with multiple forms of racing, testing, track rentals, driving schools, and community events.

HMS is searching for creative and ambitious intern to assist our marketing and communications department focusing on video marketing.

Description:

  • Pre-Planning and execution of video & audio production and editing.

  • Aid in the process of exporting and uploading videos to company website, YouTube, FTP sites.

  • Assist in the day-to-day operations of the marketing and communications team including (but not limited to) in-market community events, digital media and media relations initiatives.

  • Assist with production of graphics.

  • Assist with event management during Ford Championship Weekend including Media center and Pre-Race shows.

Requirements:

  • Strong communications/media background is preferred

  • Knowledge of video editing and graphic design on Mac OS

Operations Intern - Michigan International Speedway (Brooklyn, MI)

SUMMARY

The Operations Intern will assist with the logistical planning, event staffing, event operations, as well as support the daily operational needs of the Operations Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  1. Logistical Planning

    1. Will take projects assigned to them by management and work with the management team to build event plans including resources needed as well as staffing needs.

    2. Work with management on building timetables for each event including all needed resources and ensure that those timetables are being met.

  2. Staff Scheduling

    1. Work with department supervisors to figure out daily and event staffing needs then input those needs into the company’s online scheduling system, ABI.

    2. Assist management in contracting and scheduling service group assistance for each event those services are required.

  3. Event Operations

    1. Assist with operating the Operations Dispatch during the larger events held at the facility.

    2. Handle department credentialing and ensure each staff member or service group is credentialed properly. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to build logistical plans, ensure timetables are being met, and have good leadership skills.  This individual must also be familiar with Microsoft Office 2013 more specifically Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Knowledge of Microsoft Visio would be recommended but not required.

This job requires an individual that is willing to work long demanding hours, some weekends will also be required.  The individual applying for this internship must also have organizational and interpersonal skills, willing to be part of a team based work environment, and able and comfortable working with tight deadlines.  At times this individual may also be required to assist with projects outside of their normal day to day duties.

  • Bachelor’s degree or within Bachelor’s degree program with an emphasis in accounting or finance.
