Retail Manager/Group Sales Associate - Watkins Glen International (Watkins Glen, NY)


Retail:  Effective display, staffing and operation of the souvenir outlets, accurate control of inventory and security of revenues generated.

Group Sales:  Prospect and sell to group market in defined motorsports industry and geographic area.  Generate awareness through direct phone sales, meetings and networking groups.  Work closely with sales and hospitality teams to promote, sell and retain group business required to meet/exceed sales goals. 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage/supervise retail business operations, including both stores, retail trailers and kiosks and event operations.

  • Year-long planning and marketing with sales and marketing group for sponsor related merchandise.

  • Create new merchandise for sales mix needs.

  • Complete responsibility for effective operation of the outlets.

  • Hire/train non-profit groups and staff for stores, trailers, kiosks and other event related merchandise opportunities.

  • Work with track operations for track rentals.

  • Responsible for displays and vendor contracts.

  • Scheduling of personnel to cover complete operation.

  • Coordinate vendor, display and concession placement.  

  • Marketing/sales appropriate meeting per VP of Business Development/Partnerships.

  • Work with social media strategist for store promotions year round.

  • Manage/supervise all tent rentals for track events, strategic planning and future business models.

  • Work with track rental customers for customized events.

  • Recruit, train and oversee volunteer groups.

  • Production of daily sales reports.

  • Conduct and reconcile physical inventories.

  • Regular communications with WGI Buyer regarding merchandise needs.

  • Working knowledge of REVEL Point of Sale systems

  • Internet coordination, order filling new merchandise. Generate new group sales revenue through prospecting, cold calling and  in-person appointments

  • Follow-up with all customers after the event to ensure satisfaction

  • Provide superior customer service

  • Successfully complete 30 outbound phone calls each day that they are working for Group Sales

  • Meet and exceed weekly and monthly sales goals

  • Work within Corporate Partnership department to ensure all department standards are met

  • Attend  community events to promote group opportunities at MIS

  • Maintain proper records within CRM

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages subordinate supervisors and supervise a total of 10 to 30 employees in the Retail Operations Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; managing performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
