Communications Intern - Chicagoland Speedway & Route 66 Raceway (Joliet, IL)

Position Purpose
During the five month internship (May 2015- September 2015), the Communications Intern will gain valuable experience and knowledge about public and community relations, live events and the motorsports industry while supporting the Communications team with all media and community outreach initiatives in the office and on-site at events.

SUMMARY
The Digital Marking Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all digital marketing channels and creating a unified integrated voice for both Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway across all of these digital platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  1. Managing the content flow across all digital channels for both Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway, including but not limited to, websites, social media, email, and mobile.
  2. Proactively seek new opportunities for consumer marketing and social media promotions with current track partners as well as potential partners.
  3. Lead the day-to-day engagement with social media followers and continue to grow following for both Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway
  4. Utilize digital metrics and research to better inform future digital marketing efforts and communicate those insights and results to the organization
  5. Lead the future direction of Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway’s social media efforts, including staying current on trends, changes in the digital space, and spearheading efforts to test new forms of digital marketing
  6. Oversee on-site social programming during all race weekends
  7. Develop and manage other technology driven initiatives including but not limited to text promotions and campaigns and data capture programming.
  8. Lead Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway website content and image management as well as day-to-day point of contact with digital media agency of record
  9. Assist with all consumer marketing team efforts, as well as work cross-functionally with multiple business units on Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway events

 

QUALIFICATIONS
 

  • 1-2 years of digital marketing experience required; agency or sports property experience a plus
  • Four-Year College Degree from an accredited program; Emphasis in marketing, communications, or digital media preferred
  • Passion for sports and interest in a career within sports & entertainment

  • Create, implement and manage a season-ending evaluation of day-to-day operations of Route 66 Raceway.
  • Manage daily updates to Racer Hotline.
  • Review applications, interview and hire event staff, assign and direct work, evaluate performance, and address and resolve all staff issues.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate all training materials for Drag Staff operations.
  • Serve as an active member of the Chicagoland Speedway/Route 66 Raceway Event Planning Team, which is responsible for event preparation and evaluation during the race season, and the development, evaluation and adjustment of current policies, procedures and management of event operations to enhance guest experience.
  • Implement and maintain a real-time budget tracking process to improve accrual and forecasting, as well as controlling costs through more efficient planning and procedures.
  • Follow the concepts of the R.O.A.D.M.A.P. philosophy, and serve as a leader and set an example for all team members to follow.

Position Purpose
The Ticket Operations Manager is responsible for following all finance policies and procedures as it pertains to admissions, both advance and race day admissions.  The Ticket Operations Manager is also responsible for ensuring availability of event tickets, accuracy of order fulfillment and ensuring a positive customer purchasing experience.

  • Maintain equipment utilized in the ticket box office and by the gate operations staff for all Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 events including, but not limited to: Bar Code Scanners, computer equipment, credit card swipes, thermal ticket printers & KIS machines.
  • Review and process daily balancing, deposits and reporting of daily ticket office sales.
  • Make Director of Ticketing aware of ways to increase efficiency and reduce expenses in daily processes and procedures.
  • Process any necessary complimentary ticket requests and daily refunds.
  • Assist with outbound/renewal ticket sales call campaigns
  • Provide periodic ticket sales reports to the company’s departments to assist in event planning and promotion.
  • In conjunction with Director of Ticketing, coordinate pre- and post-event ticket auditing procedures and documentation
  • Assist Director of Ticketing in establishing policies, procedures and standards for team members as it relates to ticket operations.
  • Maintain accurate historical files on all information, documents and mailings sent to Founder PASS customers and Ticket Holders.
  • Assist Director of Ticketing in the budgeting, financial reporting and event planning processes by providing analytical data.
  • Fulfill all functions within established budgets.
  • Present outstanding customer service to all patrons of Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway
  • Other duties as deemed necessary or as directed.
