Director of Accounting - Chicagoland Speedway & Route 66 Raceway (Joliet, IL)

SUMMARY:  Director of Accounting is primarily responsible for preparation, review and communication of the business unit’s financial statements and controls, as well as, participating in the development and execution of the business unit’s strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Prepare, review and ensure timely and accurate financial statements and supporting schedules, documentation and reconciliations required for monthly/quarterly/yearly close. 

  2. Ensure compliance with external reporting standards (GAAP) and internal policies and procedures, including documentation, review and testing of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 controls.

  3. Coordinate the preparation and review of financial planning, including monthly forecasts and annual budgets, with track president and department leaders, utilizing all available systems and personnel resources.  Provide financial leadership and guidance to department leaders to assist in developing and preparing financial plans.

  4. Effectively communicate and report results of operations, financial forecasts and operating plans to track president and corporate finance, including discussion of variance analysis and cause of change schedules.

  5. Prepare financial analysis of business unit strategic initiatives, including calculating and presenting return analysis for capital requests and measuring performance toward operating objectives.

  6. Manage cash operations during events.  This includes managing the distribution of cash to appropriate personnel, safely and securely collecting cash throughout the event, supervising the counting and recording of cash, arranging for deposits and coordinating ATM machines for the guests.  This position must ensure controls are in place minimize risk of loss and maintain a high level of security around the cash operations function.

  7. Preparation and timely filing of applicable tax responsibilities, including state sales and local spectator taxes.

  8. Actively participate in all parts of the strategic planning process, including assisting in creating, submitting, and executing future strategic plan.

  9. Oversee payroll operations at the facility, including management of the payroll system.  Maintain knowledge of Illinois regulations to assist Corporate Human Resources in proper implementation and execution.

  10. Provide support for areas of the business that integrate with accounting functions, including the ticketing and sales system.

  11. Provide local support and guidance for the corporate responsibilities of accounts payable, accounts receivable and personnel management.

  12. Maintain relationships within the community to effectively assist in business operations (i.e., school districts, taxing bodies, municipalities).

  13. Additional responsibilities may be added to support track president as appropriate.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manage one employee in the Administration (Accounting) function.  Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Degree in Accounting from an accredited university with at least five years related experience.  Must demonstrate a clear understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  Supervisory experience and experience with publicly traded companies is a plus.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) and/or Certified Management Accountant, preferred

Director of Partnership Sales - Chicagoland Speedway & Route 66 Raceway (Joliet, IL)

Location: Administrative office is located at the Track in Joliet, however this position will split time in Joliet and Chicago

Chicagoland Speedway is a 1.5-mile tri-oval racetrack with a seating capacity in excess of 70,000 spectators and occupies more than 1,300 acres. The property also includes Route 66 Raceway’s state-of-the-art ¼ mile drag strip and ½ mile dirt track, making Joliet’s world-class motorsports complex Illinois’ largest sporting facility. Chicagoland Speedway hosts the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, as well as non-motorsports events, endurance running events, and more. Route 66 Raceway hosts numerous races and events throughout the year, along with the featured NHRA Nationals.

Chicagoland Speedway & Route 66 Raceway are wholly owned subsidiaries of International Speedway Corporation (ISC), a world leader in Motorsports Entertainment. ISC owns and operates Thirteen (13) premier properties throughout the U.S., along with MRN Radio, Official Radio Network and “The Voice of NASCAR”.

 

Position Purpose

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to drive new business revenue by utilizing Chicagoland Speedway & Route 66 Raceway’s vast collection of marketing and advertising assets to secure sponsorship, corporate hospitality, and new forms of revenue.  In addition, this position will be responsible for overseeing the partnership sales team.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

The Director of Partnership Sales will be responsible for achieving targeted corporate partnership sales goals thru prospecting (networking and cold-calling), presenting, and closing new partnership agreements. Examples of partnership platforms include Event Entitlement, Official Partner, Promotional Rights and On-Site Experiential Marketing:

o Prospecting: Identify and research new business and marketing partners. Contact decision makers within each organization

o Presenting: Create compelling presentations and lead new business/renewal pitches to prospective partners during meetings, potentially in a Boardroom setting, and/or during telephone calls.

o Closing: Negotiate and finalize sponsorship agreements that maximize revenue for the Speedway and Raceway

  • Assist in new business development efforts by pitching and securing facility rentals for motorsports, or non-motorsports, related entertainment events

  • Comply with companywide CRM tool for revenue reporting purposes. Meet or exceed weekly/month/yearly corporate revenue and prospecting goals

  • Maintain high level of customer service to existing and new corporate clients

  • Lead and develop corporate sales and partnership team

  • Active participation in regional civic, social, and chamber events

  • Accountability for renewal, growth, and management of accounts

  • Develop new and innovative integrated platforms for prospect businesses to secure, assisting in the advancement of sales efforts

  • Perform assigned event responsibilities during all major event weekends

    Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree from accredited College or University

  • 8+ years of property, team, media, and/or sports/entertainment sales experience

  • Ability to form strong relationships with key decision-makers at agencies, businesses, and organizations

  • Strong existing relationships with decision makers at brands and agencies in the Midwest and Chicago markets

  • Leadership Skills to mentor and coach a sales and partnership associates into an industry respected team

  • Driven by success and possess a “must-win” mentality

  • Computer knowledge (MS Word, Excel, Internet, CRM Tools, PowerPoint)

This position is responsible for soliciting and servicing group, hospitality, and season ticket sales while also managing and motivating a sales staff consisting of full & part time staff members.

Qualifications

? Bachelor’s Degree preferred
