Chicagoland Speedway is a 1.5-mile tri-oval racetrack with a seating capacity in excess of 70,000 spectators and occupies more than 1,300 acres. The property also includes Route 66 Raceway’s state-of-the-art ¼ mile drag strip and ½ mile dirt track, making Joliet’s world-class motorsports complex Illinois’ largest sporting facility. Chicagoland Speedway hosts the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, as well as non-motorsports events. Route 66 Raceway hosts numerous races and events throughout the year, along with the featured NHRA Nationals.

Chicagoland Speedway & Route 66 Raceway are wholly owned subsidiaries of International Speedway Corporation (ISC), a world leader in Motorsports Entertainment. ISC owns and operates Thirteen (13) premier properties throughout the U.S., along with MRN Radio, Official Radio Network and “The Voice of NASCAR”.

 

Position Purpose
The primary responsibilities of this position will be to lead the Communications department, developing and leading the public relations and community relations efforts and corresponding strategies for Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway to grow awareness and revenue for both properties. Within the community relations aspect of this position, the Director of Communications will be lead point of contact for the properties’ cause marketing efforts and non-profit arm, R.A.C.E. (Racing Advocates for Community Enrichment)

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Lead and develop strategic communications initiatives around CLS, Route 66 and R.A.C.E.
  • Lead and supervise the Communications team, currently consisting of a Communications Coordinator and seasonal/temporary communications assistants
    • Responsible for the recruitment, training, and oversight of seasonal staff and/or interns
  • Manage the day-to-day administrative activities of the communications team (budget, internal communications/leadership updates, etc.)
  • Lead the creative development, planning, and execution of publicity events, including advance in-market driver/talent appearances, launches of new consumer product offerings, and key property announcements
  • Lead the crisis communication plan for both properties 
  • Develop meaningful relationships with media contacts and effectively pitch local, regional and national media
  • Create and maintain relationships with key Motorsports industry contacts including Team/Driver PR reps, Drivers, and sponsor PR agencies
  • Lead all aspects of community relations and R.A.C.E. initiatives
  • Plan and assist media with questions and/or inquiries while facilitating interviews and appearances
  • Manage post-race driver celebrations and media center post-race interviews
  • Maintain high level of internal customer service to plan, develop and execute creative projects within deadlines
  • Active participation in community, social, and industry events as a representative of CLS & RT66
  • Proactively communicate to BU Leadership team real-time status of projects and recommendations on how to proceed and improve to meet business goals.
  • Remain aware of trends in the industry and marketplace and lead the Business Unit on new initiatives in the public relations field
  • Ensure a high level of customer service pre, during, and post race for members of the media
  • Provide post-event media recaps

Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree from accredited College or University
  • 5+ years of prior public relations or communications focused experience
  • Prior agency, brand, and/or sports/entertainment property experience preferred
  • Prior leadership and supervisory of direct reports preferred
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
  • Highly creative with background in developing breakthrough publicity events/opportunities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with friendly and professional demeanor
  • Strong work ethic with ability multitask to execute against deadlines
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including events on nights and weekends
  • Must demonstrate flexible and creative problem solving skills
  • Must be able to work well in a team environment interacting with multiple departments
  • Must possess a positive attitude, professionalism, integrity, motivation, and a very strong work ethic.
  • Must be able and willing to travel as needed for meetings with vendors

Position Purpose
The Manager of Consumer Insights & Analytics will manage and further develop Chicagoland Speedway and Route 66 Raceway Brand Standards.  The Manager of Consumer Insights & Analytics will manage all Marketing data, reporting, and analysis in an effort to shape and inform the BU’s Strategic Plan and its marketing agenda and programming tactics.  This position will work very closely with ISC’s Consumer Insights team, as well as NASCAR’s Market Research team, to fully leverage company / industry resources and best practices.

  • Responsibilities:
    • Leverage ISC and NASCAR resources in the areas of market research, insights, data and analytics to drive consumer programming decisions

    • Responsible for GEM survey, including development and implementation of strategic plans to improve fan experience

    • Responsible for performing pre-assigned event related duties, including but not limited to the following:
      • Pre-race elements and coordination with production company
      • Marketing credential needs including vendors, fans/winners, entertainers
      • Design, set up  and execution of marketing display areas, such as, Kid’s Club, Route 66 Raceway, Social Hub, First Time Fan Zone, Infield Fan Zone
      • Talent management
      • Staff and volunteer management
      • Fan Engagement Programs

Performance Measures

  • Successful execution of responsibilities as identified above
  • Achieve targeted metrics for Consumer Marketing goals (i.e. consumer admissions, social media channel growth, digital marketing, etc….)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous duties
  • Contribution of new and strategic ideas for the future betterment of the marketing team

Qualifications

  • Candidate MUST possess the following three qualities which are essential to success within this Business Unit:  1) Impeccable work ethic, 2) Extremely positive attitude, and 3) Strong interpersonal skills - the ability to foster strong relationships and work well with others
  • B.A. degree within Marketing, Sports Management, or similar
  • 5 years of Consumer Marketing experience, with 2-3 years of specific focus in Marketing Analytics/Market Research/Consumer Insights
  • Strong strategic and analytic skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – verbal, written, presentation, organizational and follow-up skills
  • The ability to respond quickly, calmly and professionally to event-related problems / emergencies
  • Keen understanding of social media tactics and channels
  • A strong degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to perform designated tasks efficiently and thoroughly
  • Self-starter, highly motivated
  • Passion and/or avid interest in motorsports a plus

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office;  Advanced Excel is a MUST
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or an accounting software is preferre
  • Attention to detail, accurate, timely
  • Comfort to work in a fast paced and high energy environment
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize work load
  • Able to work independently
