Accounting Intern - Richmond International Raceway (Richmond, VA)

Position Purpose
The Accounting Intern will provide accounting support in many aspects of the business and gain valuable experience and knowledge of the inner workings of the sports and event management industries, while working in a high energy and fast-paced environment at Richmond International Raceway.

Job Responsibilities

  • Month end accounting work, including journal entries, reports and reconciliations
  • Manage accounting function of merchandise sales, including event balancing and inventory.
  • Participate in event accounting work, including cash room and event audits
  • Prepare sales and use tax returns
  • Respond to inquiries related to A/P (outstanding invoices) and A/R (past due notifications)
  • Perform the initial work to process A/P invoices for certain departments (coding, descriptions, route for approval, setting up new vendors)
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the Staff Accountant or Director of Accounting


  • Bachelor’s degree or within Bachelor’s degree program with an emphasis in accounting or finance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Advanced Excel skills are required.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or an accounting software is preferred
  • Attention to detail, accurate, timely
  • Comfort to work in a fast paced and high energy environment
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize work load
  • Able to work independently

Manager of Digital Communications - Richmond International Raceway (Richmond, VA)

Job Summary:

Works in conjunction with the communications department to translate Richmond International Raceway’s (RIR) voice, advocacy, social impact and customer value into relevant and meaningful internal and external digital content. The Manager of Digital Communications is responsible for the developing, planning, scheduling and management of multimedia projects that complement the communications strategy (content, public relations, media relations) to provide an exceptional user experience for our audience.

The Manager of Digital Communications should have a passion for engaging storytelling that brings the RIR story to life. Whether to educate, entertain or inspire, this means creating a consistent user (media and consumers) experience across all digital channels. The Manager of Digital Communications reports directly to the Director of Communications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Website Management:

  • Design and develop relevant, compelling, innovative multimedia-based layouts, graphics, animation, video, sound and content.

  • Day to day maintenance of existing pages to ensure consistent content and alignment with the evolving content strategy and editorial (messaging) calendar.

  • Design and build landing pages, web banners and web graphics, with a focus on customer centric/user-friendly designs and navigation.

  • Manage our consumer-facing blog including design, content strategy and creation, and distribution.

  • Oversee content and updates to mobile website, working with the International Speedway Corporation’s (ISC) interactive team to develop new designs, content and on-site experiential sales opportunities.

  • Monitor trends influencing consumer behavior and expectations, while identifying ways to drive engagement and sales opportunities.

  • Explore traffic driving opportunities and implement best practices for mobile-friendliness and SEO.

  • Develop and manage product placement strategy to drive ecommerce.

  • Work with Corporate Sales on exploring new digital inventory possibilities within our tech portfolio.

  • Manage RIR content posted on the ISC Portal and, including press releases, video, audio, photos and employee profiles.

  • Manage press monitoring software, Cision. Maintain contact database(s), monitored clips and sought out targeted campaigns to new media in collaboration with the Communications Coordinator.

Mobile App Management:

  • Oversee content and updates to the mobile app, working with ISC’s interactive team to develop new designs, content and on-site experiential sales opportunities.

  • Responsible for page builds within the app, working with ISC Interactive/AVAI on integrating new tech into the app, oversee push notification messaging during race weekend and otherwise, collaborate with consumer marketing on campaigns to drive downloads.

Video Production:

  • Develop an integrated video strategy to complement the year-long communications content strategy and marketing plan.

  • Pre-production, production and post-production of engaging videos, which includes shooting and editing footage, creating and/or editing sound effects, voiceover and music bed, photos, text and animated graphics. Support post-production on pieces not contracted out to agencies/third parties.

  • Create content to drive engagement and share through social and digital platforms.

  • Create and maintain digital video media library. ?

  • Manage, organize, and maintain all digital equipment, including video camera, still cameras, go-pros and accessories. ?

  • Manage content strategy and race weekend scheduling of partner videographers.

General Communications:

  • Stay abreast of emerging technology, including video, website and graphic production and design. Assist with graphic design projects as necessary for social, web and blog use. Creative services hold this primary function.

  • Support the ideation, formation, editing, and distribution of press releases.

  • Manage Communications Coordinator to develop and maintain an accurate and comprehensive media database to ensure accurate and effective distribution of press releases.

  • Support media and public relations appearances by RIR staff and third parties of all mediums (TV, radio, events, online, etc) onsite and offsite.
  • Schedule and support media engagement in Richmond, Norfolk, Charlottesville, Charlotte and other targeted markets.
  • Serve as main point-of-contact for race day pre-race production. This includes the coordination of all pre-race elements, including Grand Marshals, Honorary Starters, National Anthem, fly-overs, minute-by-minute pre-race schedule, driver ride around, and other associated elements.

  • Manage race weekend text communications, which includes schedule development and implementation and emergency communication.
  • Manage and maintain monthly newsletter including content, schedule, distribution list, and online distribution.
  • Maintain RIR Media Guide for each race including necessary updates to design, content, and publication (print and online).

  • Manage annual RIR Fan Guide including design, content, and publication (print and online).

  • Support pre-race Victory Tour and Xfinity Advance Program tour events from ideation to implementation to distribution with focus on selling tickets to the upcoming race. 

  • Manage Communications Coordinator on credentialing all pre-race parties and overseeing race-day scheduling/care. Work with consumer marketing on run of show and Pre-Race added effects (staging, pyro, etc.).

  • Manage Communications Coordinator as main point of contact for media monitoring which includes providing search parameters, as well as collecting data and generating reports for post-race recaps.
  • Manage Communications Coordinator to keep all RIR statistics up to date in all forms (print and online).

Ticket Sales Account Executive - Richmond International Raceway (Richmond, VA)

The Ticket Sales Account Executive will be responsible for generating new revenue through the sale of tickets, event upgrades and specialty ticket packages to local and regional companies, in addition to managing existing accounts as assigned. This position will deliver an enhanced fan experience by building relationships with local and regional businesses and providing excellent service. Additionally, the Account Executive will be responsible for representing the Raceway at events throughout the region. The ideal candidate will be an aggressive self-starter with a passion for sales in order to proactively engage prospects through outbound calls, face to face appointments, networking events and at-track meetings.


  • Effectively promote and sell tickets, event upgrades and specialty packages for NASCAR weekends and other events at the Raceway to local and regional companies
  • Develop and execute a plan for renewal customers
  • Generate sales through outbound telephone calls (weekly quota), outside appointments and other communication methods
  • Develop referrals and leads through networking, cold calling, prospecting and other techniques
  • Build and maintain customer database
  • Maintain and produce accurate reports regarding sales, appointments, and prospecting calls
  • Participate in events, promotions, client entertainment and other activities as required
  • Work and perform assigned responsibilities during event weeks at a high level
  • Provide superior customer service in a timely and efficient manner
  • Attend and contribute to weekly sales team meetings
  • Effectively communicate across all areas of the company, including Ticketing, Consumer Marketing, Sales & Marketing, Operations, Public Relations, Community Outreach, etc
  • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Business Development

  • Prior experience with a CRM program is a plus
  • Knowledge of and interest in NASCAR and/or motorsports industry a plus
