Director of Accounting - Talladega Superspeedway (Talladega, AL)

SUMMARY:  Director of Accounting is primarily responsible for preparation, review and communication of the business unit’s financial statements and controls, as well as, participating in the development and execution of the business unit’s strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Prepare, review and ensure timely and accurate financial statements and supporting schedules, documentation and reconciliations required for monthly/quarterly/yearly close. 

  2. Ensure compliance with external reporting standards (GAAP) and internal policies and procedures, including documentation, review and testing of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 controls.

  3. Coordinate the preparation and review of financial planning, including monthly forecasts and annual budgets, with track president and department leaders, utilizing all available systems and personnel resources.  Provide financial leadership and guidance to department leaders to assist in developing and preparing financial plans.

  4. Effectively communicate and report results of operations, financial forecasts and operating plans to track president and corporate finance, including discussion of variance analysis and cause of change schedules.

  5. Prepare financial analysis of business unit strategic initiatives, including calculating and presenting return analysis for capital requests and measuring performance toward operating objectives.

  6. Manage cash operations during significant events.  This includes managing the distribution of cash to appropriate personnel, safely and securely collecting cash throughout the event, supervising the counting and recording of cash, and arranging for deposits.  This position must ensure controls are in place minimize risk of loss and maintain a high level of security around the cash operations function.

  7. Preparation and timely filing of applicable tax responsibilities, including sales, tangible and intangible personal property.

  8. Assist in creating, submitting, and executing future strategic plan at Talladega SuperSpeedway.

  9. Additional responsibilities may be added to support track president as appropriate.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manage one employee in the Administration (Accounting) function.  Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

     

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    Degree in Accounting from an accredited university with at least five years related experience.  Must demonstrate a clear understanding and application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  Supervisory experience and experience with publicly traded companies is a plus.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) and/or Certified Management Accountant, preferred

Ticket Sales and Operations Intern - Talladega Superspeedway (Talladega, AL)

POSITION SUMMARY
The Ticketing Services & Operations Intern will learn the intricacies of the Talladega Superspeedway Ticket Operations Department while strengthening their professional attributes. To participate in this internship, students must be able to receive credit from their college/university or have recently graduated.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • A major part of this role will be order fulfillment. Intern will be responsible on a daily basis for packaging ticket & camping orders to prepare for shipment. This will be under the direct supervision of the Ticket Operations Coordinator.

  • Work all NASCAR sanctioned events at Talladega Superspeedway assisting with box office operations, ticketing functions, and consumer marketing initiatives.

  • Assist staff with day-to-day operations.

  • Assist with incoming calls and greeting visitors at ticket windows.

  • Learn and use FanTracker ticketing systems for reports and account updates.

  • Organizing and preparing department for season and event days.

  • Assist with data entry including, prospect information, current customer information, and financial information.

  • Help organize and input incoming payments, including tracking and creating batches and financial reports.

  • Use Excel, Word, and Outlook applications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to receive academic credit and provide paperwork or be a recent college graduate

  • Excellent communication skills needed- interpersonal, written and verbal

  • Must be organized and detail oriented

  • Motivated and committed

  • Personable and articulate

  • Available to work evenings and weekend events when necessary

  • Customer service experience preferred

DATES

Flexible start/end dates; avg 35 hours per week. Extended hours during race week. Must be able to work race event weekend without any schedule conflicts.
